My Bio
Christine Morren was born in Louvain, Belgium in 1966. She always considered arts to be somewhat of a dream, but after pursuing a “serious” profession concluded the only serious career for her was just there: in painting.
In 2002, she started painting in acrylics, but soon found it didn’t suit her. Working with Maarten Boffé in Antwerp, the more malleable oil technique became her medium of choice, permitting a more profound manipulation. During a year of cooperation, she discovered and developed her own language. Later study in Jef Bertels’ atelier refined her vision. Other inspiring artists include Jheronimus bosch, Octaaf Landuyt, Beksinski, Chris Mars, Joe Sorren, Marc Janssens, Kalvis Zuters, Peter van Poppel and Chris Berens.
Christines work has been exposed in galleries like NovaBelgica and IDplusArt and in various other galleries and exhibitions in Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. Participating in the Mauritz Naessensprijs, she won honorable mention for the painting “Djimmy”.

Abstract to visionary
Christines world is teeming with creatures. As her works vary in intensity, emotion and dimensions, so do the theme and subjects. In a wide – or wild? – range, from tiny portrets to families or captured mythicalesque moment, the paintings speak in a curiously absorbing world view, yet unique coherence.
Christine draws a purpose and theme for the work from an abstract first base. Van Dijck brown, ultramarine blue, raw sienna, white prevail, with accent touches like cadmium red and cadmium yellow. Along with this palette, a refined shadow and light play make her work present an extraordinary luminous quality.
Christine views art and paintings as a larger-than-painting whole. This reflects in such processes as her miniatures. Vintage frames, found at antique markets and brocante shops, are elaborately processed and become a part of the miniature art framed in them.
Though there exists, certainly, a deeper sense in her work, is there a need for storytelling around them – and should it be inflicted upon the viewer? The artist does speak volumes – through the richness of the work itself.
